Marlene Schiro, LMHC was born and raised in Niagara Falls, New York. She worked summers taking tourists around the 7th wonder of the world, Niagara Falls. She met people from many different states and countries and enjoyed learning about their cultures and lives. Meeting so many varied personalities sparked her interest in psychology. She decided she wanted to learn more about people’s mental processes, so she enrolled at St Bonaventure University in the foothills of the Allegheny mountains where she earned her B.A. in Psychology. While attending college she enjoyed hiking and visiting New York’s state parks. After a short stint in Colorado working as an adolescent psychiatric counselor, she decided she wanted to study for a master’s degree. She returned to St Bonaventure where she attained her M.S. in Counseling. Soon after receiving her degree, she moved to Orlando, Florida where she worked in various mental health programs. She was part of the pilot program for Orange County Schools as a suicide prevention counselor and crisis response team member. After that she worked in the psychiatric practice of Dr. Rex Birkmire (deceased) who taught her and other counselors of the importance of providing the combination of counseling and spirituality for patients who have DSM5 disorders such as bipolar, depression and generalized anxiety disorder. She practices the humanistic approach of the esteemed Dr. Carl R. Rogers, who developed the concept of providing unconditional positive support while providing psychotherapy.
