Maya (she/her) is an associate counselor in Orlando, FL with a myriad of mental health experiences. Before graduating from the University of Central Florida with her MA in Counselor Education, she worked with local child welfare and domestic violence agencies in supporting those most affected by intimate partner violence, human trafficking and sexual abuse. This exposed her to clients suffering from depression, PTSD and substance abuse to other ailments, such as, borderline personality disorder and bi polar disorder.
Working with diverse populations allowed her to help clients develop communication skills, discover new healthy coping strategies, and promote optimal mental health.
Trauma-focused CBT, DBT and Person-centered or Humanistic therapy are most used in the sessions but other forms like Internal Family Systems and Solution-focused are used as well. The universal goal for her clients is to clear the fog of mind that stops them from seeing the strength, courage, beauty—and ultimately—answers in themselves. When not with clients, she enjoys playing with her cat (Gambino), going to the beach and attending open mics.
