About Me









Michael Manchester MA, LMHC NCC is a Licensed Mental Health Counselor in the State of Florida (Lic.# MH9898).  With his experience as a mental health counselor/psychotherapist, and a Masters Degree in Counseling earned at Rollins College Graduate Studies he currently practices psychotherapy in Lake Mary, Florida.  In addition to his education and professional experience he is also a board certified mental health counselor - National Certified Counselor (NCC) through the National Board of Certified Counselors (NBCC). 

Additional Training
Michael has trained in a number of different psychotherapies including:
Level II and II Cognitive Behvaior Therapy training at the Beck Institute, Philadelphia, PA. One of a handful of therapies that has beed proven effective with many different disorders. Levels I and II Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing (EMDR) an effective therapy for trauma, and anxiety/mood disorders. Level I Internal Family Systems, Level I Gottman Couples Therapy and Pesso-Boyden System Psychomotor (PBSP). He has also completed training as a sex therapist at the American Academy of Clinical Sexologists (ACSS).

Personal Statement
My undergraduate degree was in English and earned at the State University of New York. My master’s degree in counseling was earned at Rollins College. During my graduate training I completed my clinical practicum at St. Luke’s Community Counseling Center in Dr. Phillips (Orlando, FL) and clinical internship at The House Next Door in DeLand, Florida.  I am also a trained sex therapist and trained at the American Academy of Clinical Sexologists.

 

Since graduating I have worked in community mental health counseling settings and in a private psychotherapy practice providing counseling services to individuals, couples, families and groups. I work with older adolescents and adults with a broad range of issues. My professional interests are (but not limited to) anxiety/depression, grief/bereavement, relationship counseling, Asperger's Disorder, trauma/abuse, men’s issues and life transitions.  My approach to counseling is eclectic. I use cognitive-behavioral, mindfulness, experiential, family systems, and humanistic approaches when working with clients.

In addition to my clinical experience, I have been married for over twenty years and have a daughter attending college.  I also have a number of years experience as a sales/marketing executive in the biotech/pharmaceutical markets.  In my free time I enjoy spending time with my family, traveling, reading and 'attempting' to play golf.
